Wood Harbinger Wins Silver at 2018 SAME Projects of Excellence Awards
Wood Harbinger is honored to have received a Silver Award at the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) 22nd Annual Projects of Excellence Awards.
We won in the Consulting Services category for our work on the P891 Shipyard Electrical Backbone Preliminary Design at Naval Base Kitsap’s Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF). Kudos to Wood Harbinger electrical engineers David Schmidt, Paul Larson, and Bruce Alward for their work on this project. We are excited to share this accomplishment with the whole project team, which included Notkin Mechanical Engineers, Fraser and Fogle Architects, KPFF, EHSI International, Tuazon Engineering, and ProDims.
The Projects of Excellence Awards was held Friday, October 12, 2018 at Pacific Tower in Seattle.
Wood Harbinger provided electrical engineering for the concept design to replace the 45-year old Substation FG, the primary source of electrical power to PSNS & IMF. This crucial replacement project will provide resiliency, redundancy, reliability, and increased capacity at the heart of PSNS & IMF’s electrical distribution system.
PSNS & IMF’s mission is to support the fleet through depot level maintenance, repair, and alteration of nuclear powered aircraft carriers and submarines and recycling of U.S. Navy submarines. Reliable electrical power is required for ships services, including hotel service (shore power), ship repair (industrial power), ship systems testing, pier weight-handling equipment, pier lighting, and miscellaneous pier receptacles.
