Wood Harbinger provided mechanical and electrical design and construction administration for the new Yelm Public Safety Building, a 12,000 SF state-of-the-art multi-use facility housing the Police Department and public safety programs, court administrative services and courtroom services, City Council chamber, and the Emergency Operations Center. In light of its emergency operations/disaster response usage, the building is designed so that all city functions can be performed here. Additional requirements included a sally port, evidence storage, and outside storage facilities.

Mechanical engineering included design of the HVAC system with an electronic control system, plumbing, fire suppression, and natural gas piping. Electrical engineering included an emergency diesel generator, power distribution, lighting, communications circuits, an analog addressable fire alarm system, security systems including CCTV and card key access, the television distribution system, and audio/visual systems in select areas of the building.

The design team worked closely with the building users to ensure the facility would interface well between all departments, address the security needs of each, and provide a welcoming, community-focused environment.
