Fire Pump System Upgrade, Seattle Municipal Tower
City of Seattle
Seattle, WA

Size: 63-story office tower

Wood Harbinger provided step-by-step shut down procedures that were carefully scheduled to reduce interruptions to the building tenants.

As the prime consultant, Wood Harbinger provided fire protection and electrical engineering design and construction services for this complicated life safety project at this 63-story tower.  Phase 1 corrected emergency issues with the fire pump system.  Phase 2 replaced three fire pump controllers and added a maintenance backup fire pump on the first floor. Electrical power and fire alarm connections were upgraded to bring the fire pump system up to current code requirements.  Electrical power disconnects were provided to allow for fire pump service without electrical power interruptions to the remainder of the building.

This 63-story building has many sensitive operations which require specific coordination prior to shutting down building services.  Several full electrical and fire system shutdowns were required to implement this work. Wood Harbinger coordinated with the city and building owner to ensure that the building shutdowns occurred with as little interruption to the building tenants as possible.  Wood Harbinger worked with the contractors to ensure their work was performed on within the shutdown schedule.  All shutdowns occurred as planned.

Wood Harbinger prepared a step by step shut down procedures for the two required shut downs for this facility.  We worked with the City, building management, Seattle Fire Department, Electrical DPD, contractor and there subs, and the facility vendors.
