This 4-phase project renovated the existing 1940s-era Hangar 6 to accommodate new P8A aircraft. The hangar had four plane parking positions currently occupied by smaller P3 aircraft, as well as auxiliary spaces including tool rooms, restrooms/showers, classrooms spaces, and storage.

The plane parking positions had to be reoriented and the hangar bay extended to accommodate the longer P8A planes. Wood Harbinger provided mechanical and electrical engineering for this design/build effort, which is designed to exceeded LEED Silver certification and meet EPAC standards that require the mechanical systems to perform 30% more efficiently than ASHRAE baseline standards.

The project design was documented in REVIT, allowing the design team to coordinate seamlessly with the contractor to minimize conflicts in the field. We also worked closely with the contractor to develop an electronic maintenance manual for use by the Navy’s maintenance team.
