BCA: 2017 Wrap-up From Past President Bruce Pitts
Wood Harbinger Principal, Bruce Pitts, reflects on his tenure on the Building Commissioning Association Board of Directors, most recently as the 2016-2017 President. Read his letter below, or on the BCA’s website here.
Dear BCxA Members and Associates,
It has been my great pleasure to serve the BCxA in many roles over the years. I’ve been fortunate to serve as a member of the Northwest Chapter Board, be elected to four 3-year terms on the International Board, and serve as your President in 2016-17.
The BCxA has accomplished a lot this year. A major objective was to get the Association on more stable financial footing, which was accomplished with a surplus of funds in 2017. We published the BCxA/APPA Handbook 3rd Edition, updated the New Construction Best Practices, and added substantially to our library of commissioning tools and templates. In terms of outreach, our technical webinars and on-site training have been increasingly well-attended. The free TechTalk series established by the Central Chapter is now offered globally as a BCxA members-only benefit. Organizational governance documentation is nearing completion. Finally, the BCxA Scholarship Foundation has generated interest from sponsors, contributors and applicants alike, resulting in a growing resource to attract and support the next generation of commissioning providers.
A president can only do so much – it takes the time, energy and commitment of our great staff and numerus member volunteers. In 2017 we had more volunteers, more participation on committees and in chapters; the chapters had active boards to accomplish their goals. Beginning in January, I will continue to serve the BCxA by working with the Education and Training Committee, the Professional Development Committee and the newly-created Finance Committee. I’ll also have a lot of fun teaching the next generation of commissioning providers.
In the role of immediate past president, I will also work with your new president, John Villani. We are excited to have John as my successor – he will bring new energy and ideas to the role and to Association leadership. Please read John’s letter to you, the first of many as our new BCxA President.
