Wood Harbinger provided mechanical and fire protection engineering services for the Central Terminal
Expansion (CTE) at Sea-Tac International Airport. The CTE project created a grand central space at the
center of the airport's main terminal. The space provides passengers with a greater variety of retail
shopping, dining, and entertainment. It also provides passengers with beautiful panoramic views of the
airfield, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier from a new 70-foot high atrium.
Fire protection included a wet pipe system throughout the Central Terminal Expansion and a unique
deluge system for the 70-foot glass window wall. The nozzles for the deluge system were required to
be at the base of the glass wall and spray upward. As the facility remained in use during
construction, significant coordination of fire protection services was required to complete the multi-stage
construction project.
