This project supported adding 2 freestanding, 65-foot high PVC pellet storage silos with a
15 foot diameter for Mikron Industries, a major provider of extruded vinyl window and door
profiles. The silos are located inside the building and penetrate the building roof.
Wood Harbinger first completed a fire protection assessment, evaluating wet sprinkler, pre-action
dry pipe sprinkler, and gaseous fire suppression options. Pre-action dry pipe sprinkler protection
inside each silo was recommended as the most cost-effective solution.
Based on our assessment, we designed a pre-action dry pipe sprinkler system with smoke detection and
a control panel for notification and releasing functions. Sprinkler protection was provided inside
each silo with modifications to the roof sprinkler systems to accommodate the addition of the two storage silos.
