De-icing Facility and Taxiway Lighting

Bellingham International Airport - Bellingham, WA

This project produced a comprehensive design solution for a de-icing/retention facility and taxiway upgrades for Bellingham International Airport.

Wood Harbinger provided mechanical and electrical design, bidding support, and construction administration services. The project:
  • Provided a simplified collection, retention, and containment system for current and future de-icing operations. The system uses the existing Main Terminal ramp storm drain with control valves and distribution piping, storage tank, pumps, and controls located off the ramp area.
  • Incorporated the complete de-icing system sequence of operations and tank inventory management system into the airport terminal operations manual. Implementation of these operational procedures satisfied the required controlled discharge of de-icing fluids to the City of Bellingham Waste Treatment Facility.
  • Included reconstruction of Taxiway D and Taxiway F. This involved relocating edge lighting and signs, constructing a de-icing collection facility, and reconstructing a portion of the Terminal Apron.
