Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades, City of Des Moines Marina, Des Moines, WA
Wood Harbinger provided the electrical and mechanical design for the phased upgrade of the Marina’s medium-voltage upland distribution and low-voltage pier distribution systems.
The first phase upgraded the upland distribution system, including 15 kV feeders, switchgear, and unit substations for the office building, new guest moorage, new dry storage, and Docks A through O. It also included upgrading the electrical system and installation of a new fire protection standpipe system for Docks M and N.
Wood Harbinger’s services included:
- Coordination for the new service cutover. This required maintaining the existing 15 kV system while phasing in the new system;
- Construction Specifications; and
- Construction Cost Estimate.
For the Marina, Wood Harbinger developed an innovative shore to dock power feed system that keeps the cables out of the water and protects them from being pinched or crimped.
