Industrial Skills Center Phases I and II, Naval Base Kitsap – Bremerton, WA
PHASE I
This project provided a partial renovation of Building 78 to create an Apprentice Skills training area, a partial building renovation within Building 460 to provide Weld School practical training facilities and classrooms, and demolition of Building 289, the existing Weld School. Work in Building 78 included Apprentice Skills training area of the 4th floor, removal of existing roof and historically significant dormer window structures, restoring roof to its original design with non-combustible material, and constructing a replica of the historic shed dormer over the restored roof. Work in Building 460 Weld School included providing mechanical equipment for weld gas supply piping and fume exhaust, integrating existing fume exhaust system in the C-Net school with the new Weld School system, upgrading building power supply and electrical distribution in portion of the building where the Weld School was located, converting approximately 19,400 SF on the 2nd floor of Building 460 into training classrooms and renovating second floor restrooms. Interior renovations in both buildings included lead, PCB, and asbestos removal, modernization of restroom areas to meet American with Disabilities Act, replacement of existing interior partitions, heating and ventilation systems, power and lighting systems, floor covering and plumbing fixtures, fire protection and alarm systems, and cabling for phone and computer networks. The projects also included Anti-Terrorist Force Protection.
PHASE II
This project provided architect-engineering services for a Request for Proposal (RFP) package for design and construction of Industrial Skills Center, Phase II at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Services were in accordance with the Scope of Work; the Southwest Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (SOUTHWESTDIV) Guide for Architectural-Engineering Firms (A/E Guide) dated January 2000 and the DD1391 dated May 1, 2001.
Project features:
- 61,684 SF Building 78 Classroom conversions (the building is in the Shipyard’s National Historic Landmark District). This project includes completing the conversion of the building into a modern training facility, and includes exterior restoration work;
- 9,098 SF Building 78 Addition (NESCOM) - a three-story addition to the south end;
- Building 78 Anti-Terrorist Force Protection;
- Demolition of Buildings 551, 497, and Pier 7 Nuclear Training Mockup;
- Site Improvement - Restore the former site of Building 497, including relocation of the existing security fence and security lighting; and
- New 911 and Central Base Security Command Center as well as Force Training Center.
