Seattle City Hall, City of Seattle, Seattle, WA

Wood Harbinger provided mechanical engineering services for Seattle’s new seven-story, 198,000 SF City Hall.

The building was designed and constructed as a high performance building following sustainable design principles set by the U.S. Green Building Council, and was awarded LEED Gold Certification. Sustainable design elements include an underfloor displacement ventilation system, a living garden roof, and a water reclamation system that collects rainwater for toilet flushing and irrigation.

Throughout the sustainable design process, collaborative, multi-disciplinary design teams explored opportunities for serving multiple functions with individual design elements. DOE-2 was used to model the economic and environmental performance of alternative building envelopes, HVAC systems, lighting systems, and green design elements.
